Clara on CBS

Clara had a great time with Michelle Miller from CBS Evening News. She continues to be astounded by the vastness of her notoriety. We are doing our best to get all her fans comments to her, but it's getting harder and harder the more popular she gets.

She sends a big thanks to everyone who has given her support.

  2. God bless you and your family Clara. Thank you for sharing your family recipes and life's memories. There are so many of us who have yet to learn these things about the Great Depression because our own grandmothers have long passed away and/or never thought a depression would happen again. Clara, you are touching many lives whether you know it or not and thanks to your family members who are making it possible!

  3. Thank you so much Clara, for sharing your memories and recipes! I've kept my grandmother's recipes box - there is something so comforting about looking at the recipes she's written down on index cards. I plan to share your recipes on you tube with my 11 year old daughters who are aspiring cooks and great helpers in the garden. Bless you - Beth

  4. Hi Clara,
Your cooking reminds me of my Grandma cooking in the kitchen. I love your recipes and can't wait to get your dvd and cookbook.
Thank you for sharing your stories and recipes. You bring back so many memories for me, as my Gram and I would often talk about the depression, she being born in 1914. I would love to give you a hug!

  7. My father sent me an e-mail today telling me that I had to look up "Depression Cooking With Clara". I am so very glad that I did. I have one grandmother left to me, and she is now 86. While she has shared all that she could remember over the years I cannot recall her ever sharing her experiences with cooking during that era. Now I suppose I'll have to prod her memory just a bit more.

I'm looking forward to making a pepper and egg sandwich, though I've never found caked yeast here in New England. Perhaps my own daughter and I can make it a scavenger hunt game this weekend.

Thank you so much for sharing your grandmother with us Chris. Thank you, Clara, for giving us a glimpse into your life and your kitchen.

    Bless you,
    Karen, age 32

  8. You might want to change the word "notoriety" from the post.

  14. Hi Ms. Clara,

I just found your videos on YouTube. And I think they are wonderful.

Please keep making them and sharing such great history and wisdom with all of us.

I certainly will be buying the DVD, and any cookbook you publish. My own grandparents, who have long since passed on unsed to share their stories of the depression with me. I was too little to appreciate them then. But finding you brings me right back to that time.

And a big thank you to your grandson for starting this great documentary about you.

May you live to be 130 years! Or more!

  15. Thank you so much for these videos. Like so many others, Clara brings back memories of my own Grandmother, who was a newlywed in 1930. She was from a little town in Foggia, Italy. She tried to give us all her recipes and of course she never wrote anything down, it was just a pinch of this or that. I can't wait for the book, I think it'll make a great gift for my mom.

  22. Clara, you are such an inspiration to all cooks, especially in today's economy. We can all learn from you how to be less wasteful, more frugal and appreciate what we have instead of whining about what we don't have. I admire your wisdom, your spirit, your wit and your spunk. May God bless you, Clara.

  26. Hi Clara,
I'm one of the Maher girls from Skaneateles. My mom and dad told me about your website and videos and I am so glad I watched them! Chris, great job - your grandma in the videos is just as sweet as I remember. I had no idea about your depression cooking but I do have fond memories of celebrating with the Cannucciari family at the Christmas eve(?) fish dinner. And Clara, I still have the bolognese sauce recipe you gave me at my wedding shower 10 years ago!
    God Bless,
    Nora (Maher) Nugent

  28. Clara,
Thank you for sharing your life and your experiences. They are a precious thing. When I was in the Navy I spent almost 2 1/2 years in Sigonella. Those were some of the best years of my life. Many of my friends were Sicilian, including the family who "adopted" as you would say. A number of the meals you make are very reminiscent of what Mamma Chiramonte prepared for her family. She taught me quite a bit, including how to make pasta. Now I make my own bread and butter too. You are a treasure! My Grandmother also lived through the depression but down in Mississippi. She's left us about 25 years ago. God Bless and Thank you for sharing your memories of those incredible times that have almost faded away. Your Friend always - Jim.. "TheSwabbie"
