I have seen your episodes on youtube but I am so happy you have your own site! Thank you for sharing your delicious recipes and wonderful memories with the world. You are well loved not only by your family, but by all who watch your show. Thanks again!
I just went and watched all the episodes on YouTube! I love Clara and had to post about her on my cooking blog. Here is the link for this incredible lady: http://mandysrecipebox.blogspot.com/2009/11/have-you-met-clara.html Thanks again!
Miss Clara, I only discovered your website today and found this video I had not seen! Looks delicious! I love your stories of your parents...my grandparents, born in 1909 and 1911, taught me so much. Even though they were "rural" and you were in the city, there is much similarity in work ethic, morals and roles of women and men. I have laughed and cried from your stories. I think the most poignant was your video on dandelion greens...my great-Aunt still cooked them up through her passing in the 1980s...they reminded her of childhood and the Depression. She told me sometimes, that is all there was. Thank you for taking me down memory's path. I hope you are feeling well these days. You are so very special.
Clara is a 94 year old cook and Great Grandmother. She is 100% Sicilian-American and grew up in a Chicago suburb, Melrose Park. She survived the Great Depression and claims to have actually gained weight during America's worst state of financial despair. How did she accomplish this? Check out her cooking show and discover her secret!
Feel free to leave Clara a note at: DepressionCooking@gmail.com
